While the economic system still remains relatively unstable, some people are still suffering. Occupy DC is a grassroots movement empowering the 99% to have a say in returning the country to a just political and economic system. This movement contains a number of different people from citizens, professionals, students, activists, parents, unemployed workers, teachers, professors, voters and anyone else who feels underrepresented.

Occupy DC has an abundance of interests from separating money from politics, improving the country’s infrastructure to fix healthcare, education, the environment and economy. Interest lies in shifting the power from the top 1% of the population to the other 99% that’s suffering.

Occupy DC has noticed massive financial inequalities growing in the nation and believe that this, along with political and social inequity are not sustainable and threaten the entire country’s ability to survive. Occupy DC is said to be a response to economic inequality and political disempowerment. It is a movement to begin a discussion that hasn’t been answered by political officials – how do we fix the system so that it is able to serve all of us? Occupy DC states that the economy isn’t just for the 1% but for ‘us’ too.

Occupy DC is a part of the other Occupy movements that have swept the nation in accordance with Occupy Wall Street in New York City. It is a peaceful movement that is attempting to start a discussion and chance the current state of the economy where the economy is an area for all to thrive.
